“Philanthropy is important because it strengthens the individual while also strengthening the community. That mutually beneficial relationship can inspire an invaluable transformation within everyone involved.”
Musician, traveller, and meditator. Volunteer, reader, and engineer. Jeremy Glick is a man of many motions–but above all, he is a community leader.
As an engineering business consultant, Jeremy knows better than most how much of a difference a cooperative effort can make in actualizing ambitious goals that rest beyond the reach of a single individual. When confronted with a challenging situation, he does not see problems–he sees potential. He does not dwell on a sorry state–he imagines the impact we could feasibly make. Jeremy reminds us of a common fact that is forgotten far too often: collaboration breeds success and positivity.
Jeremy answered duty’s call in 2009 when he began volunteering at the Mid-Ohio Food bank: “I felt that I had been very lucky and given a lot of advantages in my life, and I wanted to be able to give something back to those who maybe didn’t have the advantages I had been given.” He soon realized, however, that philanthropy has much more to offer than individual fulfillment alone.
Working together for the sake of a greater cause allowed Jeremy to connect with his friends in a meaningful way and forge lasting relationships with new people. Naturally, Jeremy pursued this potential and started organizing work events with the food bank, empowering his cohorts to become strong servants of the community.
Three years ago, Jeremy moved to Austin and picked up right where he left off in Ohio by getting involved with the Central Texas Food Bank and Austin Parks Foundation, “It is a great way to meet new people, work together and make an immediate impact on the community.” He aspires to apply his engineering background to the evolving needs of the nonprofit sector with the hope of expanding the positive impact of local efforts.
We all have something to learn from leaders like Jeremy who see no limit to what we can accomplish when working together to give back, “Philanthropy strengthens the individual while also strengthening the community. That mutually beneficial relationship can inspire an invaluable transformation within everyone involved.”
